The meanings of Christmas symbols

The Christmas is around the corner, many places are decorated by numerous Christmas ornaments. But do you ever think over what all these symbols mean? This morning, I read an article on a magazine about it, here are major reference:

The wreath
People like to hang wreath on the front door at Christmas, because the round shape symbolizes unending love for familly and friends.

Mistletoe
How a strange Chinese name and characters is it! But with a picture, you will find it is quite familiar at Christmas. And the meaning of mistletoe is very interesting. If you get caught standing under the mistletoe, someone has to kiss you! This romantic plant symbolizes peace, happiness and welcome.

Christmas trees
Because the trees can stay green all year, they are symbol of never-ending life. And they also remind us that the winter will soon pass.

The stars
Why the stars are always perched atop Christmas trees? According to a story, a group Wise Men saw a bright star in the eastern sky. They followed the star to find the way to the home of baby Jesus.

Angels
The angels announced the birth of Jesus, so people remember them at Christmas.

Candy Canes
Candy canes are the most popular treat shaped like a shepherd's staff. The shepherds were the first ones to hear the angels proclaim the good news about the birth of Jesus.

Gift
At Christmas, everyone is thinking of giveing or receiving gifts, especially children. The tradition of gift-giving goes all the way back to the Wise Men (which were mentioned above.) After they found the newborn Jesus, they prepared special gifts for him.
That are part meanings of Christmas symbols, have you ever overheard them before?
